CULPEPER – Route 29 has reopened in Albemarle County from Interstate 64 south to the Nelson County line. Traffic is moving in both directions but the Virginia Department of Transportation cautions drivers that conditions remain hazardous with significant patches of ice and packed snow still on the roadway. Crews from VDOT are on the highway treating the patches with salt and abrasives and plowing the road.

Driving conditions remain hazardous on many other area roads as well and motorists are urged to continue to postpone non-essential travel. Drivers who must be out on the road are advised to reduce their speed and increase following distance from other vehicles. Conditions are likely to deteriorate Sunday evening as temperatures fall below freezing and the snow and slush remaining on the roads refreezes.

Real-time road conditions and traffic information is available by dialing 511 from any telephone in Virginia. Before traveling check weather, traffic conditions and real-time traffic cameras on many major highways in Virginia, including I-64, Route 29 and Route 250 on VDOT’s 511 Web site, www.511Virginia.org.
